Choose a Vietnam SIM or eSIM according to your phone and the plan’s actual features. An eSIM removes the need to insert a physical card, but it does not automatically include a local phone number, voice calls or the same support as another package.
Check the phone before comparing plans
Confirm with your device maker and current carrier that the phone supports the option you want and can use another provider. Keep access to your existing number in mind if important accounts use it for verification.

Distinguish the format from the service
Two plans using eSIM can still have different networks, roaming arrangements, numbers and support. Compare their written terms rather than treating “eSIM” as a complete product description.
Viettel’s official tourist portal provides one local-provider starting point and describes a registration flow involving passport information, a portrait and contact details. This is an example of a provider’s process, not a statement that every seller follows the same steps or offers the same plans.
Prepare activation while you still have a connection
Read the provider’s instructions before leaving reliable Wi-Fi. Keep the order reference and support details accessible, and understand whether scanning or installing the eSIM starts its validity. Do not publish activation codes or identity-document images in a public chat or travel group.
If changing phone settings, keep a note of the original arrangement so you understand which line handles data and which remains available for calls or messages. Follow your device and provider instructions for roaming settings.

Test the tasks that matter
After activation, check an ordinary webpage, a map search and the app you intend to use for transport. If you need hotspot access or voice calls, test those features too. A signal icon alone does not confirm that every part of the package works.
