For two weeks in Vietnam, choose a small number of bases and accept that you will not see every region. This sample uses Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City. It has thirteen hotel nights, two long regional moves and room to choose activities after arrival.
Four bases, thirteen nights

Day six needs particular attention: reaching an airport or station from Ninh Binh is part of the journey. Do not book a tight connection based only on the flight time.

Hanoi and Ninh Binh: begin with a contrast
Use Hanoi for museums, food and city walks, then change pace in Ninh Binh. A boat trip is one main activity, not the whole purpose of staying overnight. Leave time to rest and enjoy the setting around your accommodation.

Hoi An: avoid treating arrival as a full day
The first central-region day includes travel and check-in. Use the following days for the old town, food and a weather-appropriate coast or other outing. Four nights give you options without needing to reserve a major excursion every morning.

Ho Chi Minh City: finish with choices
Begin with a central landmarks walk, then choose additional visits according to your interests. Keep the final full day flexible rather than placing a distant excursion immediately before an important departure.

Should I book north-to-south flights first? Compare both directions and any open-jaw ticket against actual services and prices. The route can be reversed; the important point is to count every transfer and protect the final journey.
