Top 10 Vietnam Transport Booking Checks

Before booking Vietnam flights, trains, buses or transfers, check these ten details, including terminals, stations, luggage and pickup points.

Check the exact departure point, arrival point and luggage terms before paying for transport in Vietnam. Those details matter as much as the journey time. This checklist works for a first flight connection, a northern train journey or a road transfer between central destinations.

Last checked: September 24, 2026. Check live operator information again before travel.

1. Confirm the operating company

Write down who actually runs the journey, not only the website that sells it. Save both contacts if an agent is involved. Check which company handles a missed pickup or schedule change before payment, while it is still easy to compare another option.

2. Check the terminal for your flight

Tan Son Nhat terminal advice from older articles can be misleading. Vietnam Airlines moved its domestic flights to T3 in May 2025. Verify the terminal shown for your flight and operating airline; do not turn one airline’s announcement into a rule for every domestic service.

3. Read the station name in full

A ticket towards Sapa may involve Lao Cai station and a separate road transfer. Check that last leg before confirming your room’s arrival time. For rail options and live availability, start with Vietnam Railways, then check the date, station pair and passenger details on the actual ticket.

4. Compare door-to-door time

For a Da Nang arrival, count baggage collection and the ride to your hotel as well as the main journey. If staying in Hoi An, that onward leg is part of the same travel day. A short flight is not automatically a short interruption to your holiday.

5. Check the luggage allowance for your fare

Compare weight, dimensions and any checked-bag inclusion for the ticket you selected. The Vietnam Airlines hand-baggage page also directs passengers to the operating airline’s rules on partner flights. Save the applicable allowance rather than relying on an old screenshot from another fare.

6. Ask for the exact bus or van pickup

Confirm whether collection is at your property, a nearby street or an office. Share the accommodation address before assuming hotel pickup is included. For an early Hanoi departure, ask when you need to be ready and what contact method works if the vehicle cannot reach your entrance.

7. Match the airport app pickup to your terminal

Read the ride app’s current pickup instructions before ordering. Grab’s Tan Son Nhat guidance covers terminal-specific operations, so an old photograph of a different terminal may not help. Confirm the vehicle and meeting point in the app instead of walking towards a guessed location.

8. Check refund and change terms before payment

Read the conditions for the fare or service you are buying, including deadlines and any fees. A flexible room does not make a separate transport ticket flexible. Save the terms with the confirmation so a later change can be handled without hunting through an old booking screen.

9. Avoid fragile separate-ticket connections

A cruise return followed immediately by a separate flight leaves little room for delays. If the connections are independently booked, plan what you would do if the first leg moves. A final city night may be a better choice than hoping every operator keeps to the most optimistic timetable.

10. Confirm the final drop-off

Before a transfer to Hoi An, check whether the vehicle reaches the hotel entrance or stops nearby. Tell the property your expected arrival time and ask for the easiest approach with luggage. End the travel note at the room address, not merely at the name of the destination.

Keep one travel note per journey with the reference number, operator contact, pickup instructions and final accommodation address. Reconfirm details close to departure, particularly if a separate ticket depends on the first journey running to schedule.
