For seven days in northern Vietnam, Hanoi plus Ninh Binh makes a manageable two-base trip. This sample uses six hotel nights and returns to Hanoi before departure. It deliberately leaves Ha Long Bay for another trip or a longer version, rather than squeezing a third base into the week.

Days 1 to 3: let Hanoi set the pace
On arrival, prioritize check-in, a meal and learning the route around your accommodation. Save a museum or other focused visit for the next day, when everyone has rested.

Days 4 and 5: choose one boat experience
Treat the transfer as part of day four. Once you know your arrival time and conditions, decide whether you want a short outing or simply a rest.
On day five, choose Trang An or Tam Coc after checking current routes and arrangements. A viewpoint is optional, not an obligation after the boat trip. Discuss steps, heat and energy with the group before adding it.

Days 6 and 7: protect the journey home
Return to Hanoi before the final day. That is a planning buffer, not a guarantee against disruption, so still review your flight and transfer arrangements. Keep the last evening simple and check documents, luggage and pickup details.

What if I arrive late on day one? Keep the same six-night structure and reduce sightseeing. Do not recover lost time by stacking every attraction onto day two.
